Barbs and Backlashes

Pibel Lake

3125-00

This is not a big deal, and it will not impact a lot of Nebraska anglers.  However, it will impact some and it will be important to them, so again, I am spreading the word. . . . Fish kill reported at Pibel Lake A fish kill at Pibel Lake in southern Wheeler County has affected a variety of sport fish and set back the size quality of fish in the popular fishing spot. Thousands of largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie …

StarsAndStripesc

Planning on an extended weekend for this 4th of July.  So, I am dropping this blog today, and then will take a break for a few days.  Never fear, I will be back, sometime next week. Again a number of topics come around at the same time every year.  It is hard for me to think of anything new to say for Independence Day.  As with many of you, this is a big family holiday for us.  We will spend …

Right Tool

Before I get to the point of this blog, let me post the disclaimer. . . . “My name is Daryl, and I have a fishing tackle problem.”  Yes, I have just as much fishing tackle as any, probably more than most. I had to laugh earlier this summer.  Driving down a street I saw a garage sale sign that said “Huge Selection of Fishing Tackle”.  Of course I had to drive by, in fact, drove by once, then turned …

News at Grove Trout Rearing Station

DSCN7117

This is not a big deal, will not affect very many folks, but as usual, I like to spread the word on these things: Grove Trout Rearing Station closing temporarily to visitors The Grove Trout Rearing Station near Royal, Nebraska, will be closed to visitors until further notice due to upcoming expected high air temperatures in the area. Warm water stresses trout, which have experienced health issues as the water to the facility has warmed. Warm water holds less oxygen, …

An Assist!

TalkingBass10-poundShiny

I have blogged about busted rods and lost fish recently.  Once in a while a person just needs an assist: Sorry.  I know that video is not new, and it is stupid–just the way I like it.  I thought I had posted it in my blog before, but if I have I could not find it. Hopefully, it will send you out the door on your weekend adventure with a smile on your face!  Better take a good buddy with …

“The One that Got Away”

BrownTrout1

I have told a few stories here about “the one that got away”.  Do not get me wrong, my fishing partners and I have landed A LOT of really nice fish over the years.  We have albums full of photos proving that most of them have not “got away”.  Yet, the ones that got away seem to live forever in our memory.  That is fine, that keeps us fishing, but hopefully there are some things learned in the process: Why …
