Egg #3

Early Sunday morning the birds gave me a brief glimpse of the clutch and, as expected, there were three eggs.    If anymore are on the way, expect it to arrive on Monday or Tuesday.    Maybe by the time the female is done laying eggs spring will arrive?  Maybe?  Please!

A Nice Opening Day Gobbler

Sharing a couple quick pics of a nice gobbler I was able to take on this beautiful opening day of Nebraska’s spring shotgun wild turkey hunting season in northern Douglas County. Decided to go ‘old school’  spring shotgun turkey hunting — no decoys, no blind, just camo, calls and face paint! Had a great hunt, stay tuned to the blog for more pics from the opening weekend of Nebraska’s spring shotgun wild turkey hunting season!

LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters are urged to be safe when they take to the field for spring turkey hunting. As of April 13, spring turkey season is open to hunters using archery equipment and shotguns. The season closes May 31. The main cause of turkey hunting incidents each year is when a hunter does not identify the target or know what is beyond it. This can result in one hunter accidentally shooting another. “Always identify the target as a turkey …

Panhandle Passages with Justin Haag — Old Man Winter’s Parting Gift?

Old Man Winter has been a little slow in delivering this region measurable snowfall this year, but he didn’t mess around when he finally got around to it. I’ve seen varying reports of snowfall in the region this week that range up to 20 inches in Chadron. With the driving winds, the drifts became measured in feet instead of inches. Such a blizzard certainly doesn’t come without hardship by many, but I’d wager it a challenge to find someone who …

This has nothing to do with fish, nothing to do with Nebraska for that matter.  But, I found this video and song on the internet someplace, and it was a nice, 3-some minute break in the middle of my day, I hope it is for yours too.  I know a lot of the footage was taken in the fall and winter, but there is some spring and summer footage too. Take a break, watch it, have a great weekend!  Get …

Two eggs for a wintry day

As some have already seen, the female laid a second egg midday on this cold and snowy April 11th.   After the female laid the egg, the male tended to the clutch-in-progress.  He was not providing much in the way of good views of the eggs.  The second eggs came as expected, about two days after the first one was laid.    If another egg is on tap, expect to see it sometime Saturday (but don’t hold me to it!).
