Anglers of the Blue Moon Fiesta – Jan 15

Wanted to give you the lowdown on a fiesta taking place the evening of Tuesday,  January 15, at La Paloma Mexican Restaurant in Lincoln, as the Anglers of the Blue Moon raise the needed funds to construct special-needs fishing piers at Bowling Lake.  Nebraska’s very own Dick Turpin will be hosting the event with 15% of the dining proceeds going to the fishing pier project.  Other local celebrities will be on hand to bus tables, take orders and do who-knows-what-else.  …

Synthesizing Lessons about Fire, Grazing, Plants, and Butterflies – The Prairie Ecologist

Adventure Report, New Year’s Break

WHY I THOROUGHLY ENJOY THE LATE FIREARM DEER SEASON

It’s only an excuse for me to experience winter, watch wildlife, enjoy the scenery and shoot photos with a new camera … Really it is … I am referring to Nebraska’s Late Firearm Deer Hunting Season. I thoroughly enjoy it! The photos from my Saunders County expedition will sum up why. Of course, getting an antlerless deer (a whitetail doe) in the late firearm season is merely a bonus for me!

Game and Parks to Burn Brush Piles

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles, as weather allows, at several sites across the state. Brush piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands, or from trees damaged in wildfires. Removal of brush piles will open grasslands and timber for continued management, eliminate a wildfire fuel source and eliminate predator habitat. Spring Turkey Permits Available Jan. 14

LINCOLN, Neb. – Spring turkey hunting permits for 2013 will be available from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission starting at 1 p.m. Central Time on Jan. 14. Each spring turkey permit allows a hunter to take one male or bearded female turkey with bow and arrow in the archery season or a shotgun in the shotgun season. A person may purchase up to three spring turkey permits. Archery season for youth and adults opens March 25. Shotgun season opens …

Park Permits Available for 2013

LINCOLN, Neb. – With the holidays now behind them, Nebraskans can buy themselves a gift good for 12 months of outdoor fun. The 2013 park entry permits, which are required for every vehicle entering a state park, recreation area and historical park, are available from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The fees are $25 for an annual permit, $12.50 for a duplicate annual permit and $5 for a daily permit. Permit holders must permanently affix the sticker to the …

A Sledding Video

Let me be honest. What you’ll see in the attached video is not entirely accurate. I did briefly drag my feet in the middle of my run down the Mahoney State Park Toboggan Run. Why?
