Living History Scheduled for May 4-5 at Fort Atkinson SHP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Life at an 1820s military post will be depicted at Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park on May 4-5. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., volunteers will demonstrate period trades, such as blacksmithing, carpentry, tinsmithing and coopering, and crafts such as quilting, spinning and weaving. Valentine Youth Fishing Clinic Set for May 4

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Nebraska Walleye Association and Valentine Lions Club will conduct a youth fishing clinic on May 4 at the Valentine State Fish Hatchery. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the clinic starts at 10 at the hatchery northeast of Valentine. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children. Beyond BOW Archery Classes Scheduled in May

LINCOLN, Neb. – A Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman archery class will take place at Platte River State Park each Wednesday in May. Participants may attend any of the classes, which are: May 8, Introduction to Archery; May 15, Shopping for Women’s Bows; May 22, Tuning Your Bow; and May 29, Fun with Archery. National Walk at Lunch Day to Benefit Nebraska Trails

LINCOLN, Neb. – April 24 is National Walk at Lunch Day. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska will contribute $20 to the Nebraska Game and Parks Foundation for each organization that registers to walk. LINCOLN, Neb. – A Nebraska Game and Parks Commission public informational meeting in Guide Rock to discuss crop stubble management has been rescheduled for May 1. Hunters Should Be Wary of Cattle at Oak Glen WMA

LINCOLN, Neb. – Spring turkey hunters are reminded to close all gates at Oak Glen Wildlife Management Area in Seward County, as cattle will be grazing on the northern portion of the 633-acre area beginning May 1, weather permitting. Grazing is a grassland management tool that will increase the growth of legumes and forbs, improving the native prairie for grassland species. Oak Glen WMA is located 1½ miles north of Garland. The spring turkey season closes May 31.
