Fort Kearny ODP Offers Activities for Dogs

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Fort Kearny Outdoor Discovery Program is going to the dogs May 11. Come out for a free day of outdoor fun and don’t forget to bring the family dog.

The program has several activities for dogs this year, including a dock jumping competition, in which your pet chases a dummy off a dock into the water. There is a timed retriever maze, in which your dog will retrieve a dummy while winding through a field of decoys. There also will be several water stations and ponds to keep your pet cool. Don’t forget to bring the leash.

There also will be plenty of outdoor activities for the family. Among the activities available for all ages and experience levels are shooting sports (shotgun, 3-D archery, aerial archery and air rifle), kayaking, fishing, dog field activities, campground games, sling shots and trapping. In addition, you can compete in a s’mores eating contest, learn about Nebraska’s mountain lions and pot plants for Mother’s Day. Participate in select activities for a chance to win gift cards.

This spring celebration of Nebraska’s outdoors is free and runs 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

A park entry permit is required.
