I have a news release I want to share: Wagon Train SRA lake to be chemically renovated Aug. 10 Wagon Train State Recreation Area lake will be chemically renovated Aug. 10, weather depending, to remove the existing fish population. Activities at the rec area, about 2 miles east of Hickman, will be limited that day. Here are some news items that I want to spread around: Work at Summit, Wagon Train affecting angler, boater access Aquatic Habitat improvement projects are underway at Summit Lake and Wagon Train Lake in eastern Nebraska that affect angler and boater access. Summit Lake’s water level is 8 feet below normal. Removal of sediment from the lake’s south basin is almost complete; construction will move to the west sediment basin. The water level at Wagon Train Reservoir south of Lincoln is down several feet right now.  We will be doing some maintenance and modifications on previous aquatic habitat work there.  Eventually, a rotenone renovation will be done as well. There are numerous cedar trees around Wagon Train that need removal.  While the water is down, those cedar trees might as well end up as fish attractors in the reservoir.  Volunteers and fisheries staff muscled 300 cedar trees into the reservoir …

Aquatic habitat and sediment maintenance project to begin at Wagon Train Reservoir

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will lower the water level at Wagon Train Reservoir 8 feet in preparation for the maintenance of the sediment basins later this fall. Visitors can expect the boat ramp and construction areas to be closed. The reservoir has experienced the degrading effects of sedimentation and the nutrients that come with it.
