Six fishing records certified in 2021, including one twice in eight days

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission certified six state fishing records in 2021, including the underwater spearfishing channel catfish mark that was broken twice in eight days. It was a record that had stood for more than 20 years. The year 2021 is in the rear-view mirror.  Time to summarize the state record fish that were caught last year: Surface Spearing No state record fish were taken by surface spearing in 2021. Underwater Spearfishing Two state record fish were taken by underwater spearfishing last year, both of them channel catfish.  The first was taken on June 5 and weighed 26 pounds 9 ounces. Time for a state record update.  It is the time of year that the spear-fishing and bow-fishing records come in. White Sucker The first one actually came across my desk a few months ago.  Brionna Schafer of Alliance was bow-fishing when she arrowed a 6 pound 6 ounce white sucker back in April.  She found her fish swimming in Box Butte Reservoir. LINCOLN, Neb. – Four state fish records recently were certified by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Three records were for underwater spearfishing and one for rod and reel. They are: – Mike Ban of Elbert, Colo., speared a 30-pound, 7-ounce bigmouth buffalo June 27 at a private sandpit in Dawson County. – Ryan Malo of Cheyenne, Wyo., speared a 16-pound, 2-ounce wiper July 1 at Lake McConaughy in Keith County. – Ryan Reynolds of Lexington speared an 8-pound, 12-ounce …
