Living History Set for Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at Fort Atkinson SHP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Volunteers will portray life at an 1820s military post during Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Greenwood Man Critical Following Branched Oak Incident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A Greenwood man is in critical but stable condition in a Lincoln hospital after being pulled from Branched Oak Lake on Aug. 18. James William Lee, 61, remains in the intensive care unit at Bryan LGH Medical Center West, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Lee was not wearing a life jacket when he swam from the shore at Area 14 to retrieve his personal watercraft, which had drifted off the beach. He was found …

Families on Target Set for Aug. 28 in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – A free evening of archery shooting is scheduled at the Families on Target program Aug. 28 at the Lincoln Archery Range. The event takes place from 6-8 p.m. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will instruct new shooters on yardage targets, 3-D targets and aerial targets. Equipment will be provided. The Lincoln Archery Range is located at 44th and Superior streets. Drive west through the Lincoln Trap and Skeet grounds to the archery range parking lot.

Not Too Late to Register for BOW Workshop

LINCOLN, Neb. – Plan a weekend outdoor adventure in the Sandhills this fall. Eighty women already have signed up for the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop. There’s plenty of room for more. This hands-on skills workshop, scheduled for Oct. 4-6 at the State 4-H Camp near Halsey, gives women age 18 and older the opportunity to learn outdoor skills in a comfortable environment. Lewis and Clark Heritage Day Aug. 24 at Ponca State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – Explore the journey of the Corps of Discovery during Lewis and Clark Heritage Day on Aug. 24 at Ponca State Park. The expedition passed through the Ponca area in late August more than 200 years ago. LINCOLN, Neb. – Brush up on wing-shooting skills and attend the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s dove workshop and clay shoot Aug. 23 at Platte River State Park. Man Cited for Pawnee SRA Boating Incident

LINCOLN, Neb. – A citizen of the Ukraine was cited with negligent boat operation by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission in connection with an incident at Pawnee State Recreation Area on Aug. 7. Valentyn Siny, 37, was operating a personal watercraft that collided with two females on separate tubes being pulled by a boat. Fall Turkey Permits Available Aug. 12

LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters may begin purchasing fall turkey hunting permits Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. Central Time. The fall turkey season is Sept. 15-Jan. 31, 2014. Permits will be available at OutdoorNebraska.org and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission permitting offices. A fall turkey permit is valid statewide and allows a hunter to harvest two turkeys of either sex with a shotgun or archery equipment. Each hunter may have up to two permits.
