Back in June I told you about drunk crayfish, And Now, Even Our Crayfish are Drunk.

Well, the unthinkable has happened again!  Check out this headline!

Go ahead, follow the link, read the story.  I ain’t making this stuff up!

Wow, I am afraid these kinds of research projects give us pointy-headed biologists bad reputations.  Seems as though all we can think about is getting crayfish drunk and fish stoned, well at least some of us.

I guess I have been “partying” with the wrong bunch of scientists?

Or maybe I have been hanging out with the right bunch?

Instead of scheming how to get members of the aquatic biota intoxicated, I spend all my time trying to figure out how to get them to bite my baits and lures!

Apparently, I have not been thinking hard enough.

If you read the story, it is interesting.  The premise is that fish raised in culture situations, fish hatcheries, are crowded and stressed.  If those fish could mellow-out a bit, maybe they would grow faster?  Unfortunately, the researchers found that some reefer did not really mellow the fish, but it did increase their metabolism.  Now that sounds like a good thing, but it ain’t–increased metabolism meant the fish simply burned more energy instead of putting on more growth or putting on more weight.

In other words, they got the “munchies”.

If that commercial is not evidence that someone had been smoking the wacky weed, I do not know what is.

I wonder if that is why the fishing is so much better in Colorado?  Seems as though I always hear how much better the fishing is in other states.

Rumor is that Cheech and Chong are going to be fishing the bass circuit next year.  Maybe KVD better watch out?

I can tell you that I have found that mellow, unspooked fish are much more likely to bite.  In fact, I will go to lengths to keep from spooking fish, but I do not know if I will go so far as rolling joints for them?  Besides, how do you keep them lit?
