Volunteers Needed for Verdel Missouri River Cleanup

LINCOLN, Neb. – Volunteers are needed for the inaugural Verdel Missouri River Cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 5. The cleanup will comb sandbars and islands for trash along a 39-mile stretch of the river.

The Missouri National Recreational River and Niobrara State Park (SP) are sponsoring the event, which begins with registration at 8 a.m. at the Verdel boat ramp and ends at noon with a cookout for volunteers. Boats from the National Park Service, Niobrara SP and partner agencies will transport volunteers to and from cleanup sites along the river.

Volunteers should wear clothing appropriate for the weather and sturdy, closed-toe shoes. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended; bring gloves or gloves will be provided.
