Iowa Man Cited for Shooting Mountain Lion

LINCOLN – A 23-year-old Iowa man has been cited for shooting a mountain lion out of season near Crawford on the evening of Sept. 6. The man was hunting deer with archery equipment from a tree stand on Ponderosa Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Dawes County when the incident occurred. He reported shooting the lion to the Dawes County Sherriff’s Department that night. Mountain Lion Confirmed in Alliance

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has confirmed mountain lion presence in Alliance through video taken on the evening of Aug. 6 near the city landfill. Authorities are attempting to remove the animal and request that people remain outside of the landfill area. Game and Parks requests that anyone who observes a mountain lion in Alliance immediately contact the Alliance Police Department, the Box Butte County Sherriff’s Office, or Game and Parks.

Mountain Lion Killed Near Chadron

LINCOLN — A 5-month-old female mountain lion was shot south of Chadron in Dawes County on Saturday, July 19. A man reported noticing the animal crouched in the grass about 20 yards from his residence, where two young children were present on a patio. The man retrieved a rifle from the house and approached the animal, then shot it when it stood but did not flee. The mountain lion weighed approximately 30 pounds. Mountain Lion Unintentionally Killed

LINCOLN – A mountain lion was found unintentionally killed in a snare in Sioux County on June 22, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The trap was set by U.S. Department of Agriculture APHIS Wildlife Services in an attempt to remove coyotes from a cattle pasture. The gender of the animal could not be determined with certainty due to decomposition in the warm weather. Mountain Lion Shot in Sheridan County

LINCOLN – A Sheridan County landowner on March 21 shot a young mountain lion that had approached his chicken coop. The lion did not flee when the landowner walked within 15 yards of it. The mountain lion was a 30-pound female. No evidence of additional mountain lion activity was found at the time of the incident. LINCOLN – A mountain lion was killed by a vehicle on U.S. Hwy. 20 in Sioux County on Feb. 1, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. LINCOLN, Neb. – A 15-year-old Franklin resident drew the state’s first mountain lion lottery permit on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Holden Bruce will be allowed to hunt mountain lions during Season 1, Jan. 1-Feb. 14, 2014, in the Pine Ridge Unit. As the first lottery permit holder, Bruce will be allowed to hunt mountain lions with dogs during Season 1.
