Hunters urged to stay safe in the field this season

LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters should recommit themselves to staying safe in the field this fall. Nebraska Hunter Education Coordinator Jackson Ellis says hunter safety involves the use of hunter orange, firearm rules and proper preparation. Hunter Orange Ellis said that since the beginning of Hunter Education and hunter orange requirements in the mid-1970s, accidental shootings have decreased dramatically. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters that some wildlife management areas (WMA) still are closed due to flooding and high water along the Missouri River. Some county roads accessing areas are closed or difficult to drive. Hunting seasons are approaching and some hunters already are scouting their favorite spots. Now is time to take hunter education course

LINCOLN, Neb. – Young hunters who will be required to obtain hunter education certification are urged to begin looking for a class. Hunter education courses are available year-round, but most traditional classroom courses and Hunt Safe Sessions are offered in the fall and spring. Mid-August through mid-November is packed with course offerings throughout the state. LINCOLN, Neb. – There are nearly 1 million acres of publicly accessible lands throughout Nebraska. The recently published 2019-2020 Public Access Atlas identifies and consolidates these public access resources for the benefit of Nebraska’s hunters, trappers and anglers.
