LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn tree piles, as weather and snow cover allow, at several sites across the state. Tree piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands or from trees damaged in wildfires or storms. Removal of tree piles will open grasslands and timber for continued management, eliminate a wildfire fuel source and eliminate sites conducive to the germination of noxious and invasive plants. Prescribed Burn Training Workshops Scheduled

LINCOLN – Pheasants Forever and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host prescribed burn training workshops for landowners across the state in the coming weeks. These workshops are for beginning to intermediate burners and cover fire behavior, proper equipment and safety techniques, as well as ways to plan for burns to minimize risk. LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns of woodlands and grasslands at state-owned areas as weather conditions allow. Burns are scheduled for Ponca State Park (SP), Dixon County; Rock Creek Station State Historical Park, Jefferson County; and Indian Cave SP, Richardson County. Prescribed Burns Planned for Indian Cave and Ponca State Parks

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns in the oak woodlands at Indian Cave State Park (SP) and Ponca SP between March 17 and March 31. These low intensity burns are designed to reduce brush and small tree densities in the woodlands and will allow for oak tree regeneration, increase native wildflowers and enhance wildlife habitat.

Prescribed Burns Planned at Pine Glen WMA, Smith Falls SP

LINCOLN – Prescribed burns are planned for Pine Glen Wildlife Management Area in Brown County and Smith Falls State Park in Cherry County sometime between March 10 and March 31, weather permitting. Restoration of forests and grasslands began at both areas in 2010 by reducing woodland densities and ladder fuels to manageable levels with many thinning projects. Prescribed Burn Conference Set for July 15

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Prescribed Burn Conference will be held July 15 in Kearney. The conference brings landowners and fire professionals together to discuss the challenges and success of prescribed burning. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Kearney Holiday Inn. Registration is $20 through June 30, $25 from July 1-15 and $15 for volunteer fire department members.
