Prescribed Burns of Grasslands Scheduled

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns of grasslands at several state-owned areas as weather conditions allow.

These burns will stimulate the growth of grasses and forbs and remove invasive tree and brush species. Burning will take place pending approval from local fire chiefs.

Burns are scheduled for the following areas, listed by county. All areas are wildlife management areas, unless otherwise noted:

Buffalo – Bassway Strip; Butler – Redtail; Burt – Pelican Point State Recreation Area (SRA); Cass – Rakes Creek, Schilling; Cherry – Smith Falls State Park; Custer – Arcadia Diversion, Pressey; Dawson – Bittern’s Call, Dogwood; Douglas – Two Rivers; Fillmore – Marsh Hawk, Redhead; Gage – Arrowhead, Diamond Lake; Howard – Leonard A. Koziol, Loup Bottoms; Jefferson – Flathead, Rock Glen, Rose Creek, Rose Creek West; Lancaster – Branched Oak SRA and WMA, Conestoga, Helmuth, Olive Creek, Pawnee WMA, Wagon Train, Wildwood, Yankee Hill; Lincoln – Chester Island, Platte; Otoe – Triple Creek MA, Wilson Creek; Pawnee – Burchard Lake; Phelps – Sacramento-Wilcox; Saline – Swan Creek; Saunders – Bramble, Larkspur; Seward – Twin Lakes; Sherman – Sherman Reservoir; Thayer – Meridian.
