LINCOLN, Neb. – Women are invited to experience all the recreation opportunities Platte River State Park has to offer in a Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) event April 29-30. LINCOLN, Neb. – Platte River State Park will host a Project Appleseed .22 rifle clinic April 15. This intensive program will feature shooting from three positions at 25 meters, with targets that are scaled to simulate shooting at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. Platte River SP trail bridge to close temporarily

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Owen Crossing Bridge at Platte River State Park will be temporarily closed for maintenance Feb. 13 – March 31. The hike-bike trail bridge in the northeast portion of the park spans Decker Creek. The closure will temporarily cut off access to the trails in the Sjogren wildlife track. The park has several other trails that will not be affected. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering the park.

Some activities cancelled Dec. 17 at Platte River SP

LINCOLN – Due to inclement weather, all holiday activities Dec. 17 at Platte River State Park scheduled for 3 p.m. and later have been cancelled. This includes the yule log quest and hayrack rides. Events scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. will continue as planned, including kids’ crafts, visits with Santa and marshmallow roasting. The Scott Lodge Restaurant will remain open. A park entry permit is required.

There is a little pond at Platte River State Park.  It is open for catch & release fishing for kids and adults fishing with their kids.  As my kids were growing up, we took advantage of that fishing opportunity as much as possible; there were, and still are, some big Bluegills and Channel Catfish and lots of Largemouth Bass swimming in the Jenny Newman pond (Growing Up Jenny Newman). LINCOLN – Jenny Newman Pond at Platte River State Park is undergoing a renovation that will include the addition of Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant walks, improved fishing access and interactive ponds. While there will be no direct impact to the Cottonwood, Choke Cherry 1 and Choke Cherry 2 cabins near the pond, the area behind them will be under construction. Road Work Scheduled on Exit to Mahoney and Platte River State Parks

LINCOLN – Visitors who use Interstate 80 to enjoy Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks (SP) will encounter road construction at exit 426 this summer. The project will include both directions of Nebraska Highway 66 between 274th St., west of Mahoney SP, and E. Rock Creek Road, west of South Bend.
