A Big Bass Quest

A little over a year ago a fishing buddy of mine began asking some questions about which public body of water in Nebraska would give him the best chance to catch the biggest largemouth bass of his life.  Knowing where he lived, I instantly had an answer for him. I teased you with this last Friday, and I realize by now some of you have already seen this, but for those of you who have not, you are going to …

Welcome To the Party

So far it has been what I would consider to be a “typical” early spring in Nebraska–schizophrenic weather with frequent cold fronts and even lots of snow this March!  Looking ahead at the forecast for the next few days, it looks like things might finally warm up.  I suspect that most will view that as very good news! Whatever. Let me explain my nonchalant attitude. . . . Most of you know I fish every month of the year.  I …

Spring Break Trout

With teenagers, you take advantage of any time that they may have available and want to venture outdoors. I did just that with the youngest member of our family yesterday. That would be our 15 year-old Creighton Prep High School Freshman Noah (Wagner). It’s spring break week at Prep and Noah indicated to me that he might like to get out and do a little fishin’ at the Two Rivers SRA Trout Lake near Waterloo and then go visit Grandma. …

Bobbers Ain’t Just for Kids

If your ice-fishing season is not over, it soon will be.  At this time, many Nebraska anglers are chomping at the bit to do some open-water fishing.  On the eve of a new open-water fishing “season” many of us like to plan our strategies, pick out new lures we would like to try, think about new techniques we would like to master.  Maybe you have thought about learning how to drop-shot for bass this year, troll lead-core for walleyes, learn …

Nebraska Ice-fari

At no time this winter have I have been completely convinced that we were going to have a long ice-fishing season.  Yes, we have had some cold weather, have had plenty of ice to be safe, but then we have these bouts of warm temperatures.  It has been cold in between thaws, but not cold enough for long enough.  Since I have not been convinced it will last long, the past couple of weeks I have been on the ice …
