Big game meeting in Bridgeport rescheduled for Dec. 28

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s big game public informational meeting scheduled for Dec. 21 in Bridgeport has been postponed because of inclement weather. The meeting is rescheduled for Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at Prairie Winds Community Center, 428 N. Main St. Hunters and landowners are encouraged to offer their feedback on big game issues during this meeting, which is one of several held statewide. LINCOLN, Neb. – Mindell Rethwisch of Elkhorn and Troy Stonacek of Lincoln have been drawn as lottery winners of two Super Tag multispecies big game permits. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission drew the names July 13. LINCOLN, Neb. – Residents and nonresidents may apply for one 2017 Nebraska deer permit in any draw unit beginning June 12, and residents may apply for one elk permit and one buck or either-sex antelope permit in available units. The application period begins at 1 p.m. Central Time (CT) on June 12. Four positives for CWD found in recent testing of deer

LINCOLN, Neb. – The presence of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in deer has been detected for the first time in southeastern Nebraska, according to findings by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The Commission conducted a CWD sampling operation in its Southeast District deer check stations during the 2016 November firearm deer season. Four samples tested positive for CWD. Those samples were taken from deer harvested on private land in Thayer, Saline, Cass and Polk counties. There were 753 deer …
