Cornhusker Fly Fishers

Want to mention another excellent Nebraska fishing organization, the Cornhusker Fly Fishers.  They meet monthly at our Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium south of Gretna.  If you check their calendar, you will see that this is a very active bunch of anglers doing fly-tying, fishing events, casting classes, meetings and a whole lot more.  Many of them are volunteer fishing instructors and also help with kid’s fishing events, family fishing nights, sport shows, and Expos.  If you are an angler, especially a fly angler, …

Great Weekend!

Got home Sunday afternoon from our annual Becoming an Outdoors-Woman weekend.  What a great weekend it was!!!!!  The weather was the best ever this year, but it was so much more than that. . . . LINCOLN – Several rainbow trout stockings in south-central Nebraska have been rescheduled by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The stocking of 10-inch trout will enhance fishing opportunities this fall and winter. Holdrege City Lake, 2,000 trout; Fort Kearny State Recreation Area (SRA) No. 6, Kearney, 1,200, trout; and Windmill SRA No. 2, Gibbon, 600 trout, will be stocked Oct 24 instead of Oct. 6. Trout Stocking Moved to Oct. 12 at Omaha’s Benson Park

LINCOLN – The stocking of rainbow trout at Omaha’s Benson Park Pond has been moved up to Oct. 12 to accommodate the Oct. 16 Cops and Bobbers family fishing event. Initially, the 1,050 10-inch trout were scheduled to be stocked Oct. 25 by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Stocking schedules are always considered tentative. LINCOLN – Enjoy a fall afternoon of family fishing at the Cops and Bobbers fishing event Oct. 16 at Omaha’s Benson Park, 7028 Military Ave. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Omaha Police Department are hosting the event, which will run from 1-4 p.m. Bait, tackle, fishing poles and a hot dog lunch will be provided.
