Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers

One of the most common questions I answer is who to call when some fish or game violation is observed while on the water or in the field.  I tell folks that those fish & wildlife belong to them, belong to me, and the poachers are stealing from all of us!  When we see something we should be upset about it.  However, it is not for us to do something directly, and the best thing we can do is observe as much as possible and then make a call!  The Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers number is 1-800-742-7627, call it, keep calling it!

Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers is having a fund-raising banquet this week.  I will let my buddy Rick Windham from the North Platte Telegraph tell you about it:

Wildlife Crimestoppers

Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers is a cooperative wildlife law enforcement program sponsored by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska Wildlife Protectors Association (NWPA). It is similar to the well-known Crime Stoppers program and offers rewards for information resulting in arrests for game law violations. The Game and Parks Commission provides a toll-free hotline, investigative operations and public information. The Wildlife Protectors, a group of concerned citizens, handles fundraising and reward payment.

Rewards will be paid in cases where charges are filed; the Wildlife Protectors Association board decides the amount of each reward under guidelines set forth in the organization bylaws. Rewards can be paid in cash or by check as the informant wishes.

As you can imagine, all this takes money. The Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers program operates solely on donations from people interested in protecting wildlife from illegal poaching activities. To help raise money, there will be a banquet on Oct. 14 at Centennial Hall at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and an auction with items like an African Safari, Husker football tickets, Payton Manning autographed jersey, at least nine different guns, goose hunts, turkey hunts, original art and a buffalo hide. There will also be raffles and door prizes.

Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at the NGPC Office, Platte Valley Gun Gallery and NebraskaLand National Bank [all in North Platte].

I fully realize not everyone will be able to make it to the banquet or help with the fund-raising, but even so I want all Nebraska hunters, anglers and trappers to be aware of Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers and what they do for our fish & wildlife resources!  Check out their website, Nebraska Wildlife Crimestoppers, support them, and if you have to use them!
