Rock Creek Trail Days June 1-2

LINCOLN, Neb. – Several historical interpretations, re-enactments and displays are scheduled for Rock Creek Trail Days, June 1-2 at Rock Creek Station State Historical Park. Rock Creek Station was established in 1857 along the Oregon and California trails. It was a supply center and resting spot for westward emigrants and later became a Pony Express relay station. Outdoor Skills Day Camp Set for June 8

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Lincoln Izaak Walton League will host a family Outdoor Skills Day Camp on June 8. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Izaak Walton League shooting range, located a half-mile south of 134th Street and Nebraska Highway 2. It is open to youth ages 11-16, as well as their parents. Merritt to Take Reservations for Select Sites

LINCOLN, Neb. – Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area will begin taking reservations for select sites in the Cedar Bay, Beed’s Landing and Boardman campgrounds starting May 28. The reservable sites are: Cedar Bay (24 sites) – Electrical sites: A-Cedar, B-Cedar, D-Cedar, E-Cedar, G-Cedar, H-Cedar, L-Cedar, N-Cedar, P-Cedar, R-Cedar, S-Cedar, V-Cedar, W-Cedar and AA-Cedar. Living History at Fort Kearny SHP May 25-27

LINCOLN, Neb. – A living history demonstration of an 1860s soldier camp will be re-enacted at Fort Kearny State Historical Park on May 25-27. The demonstration is from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. May 25-26 and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on May 27, with a cannon firing at 2 p.m. each day. There will be wood carving and pine needle basket demonstrations. A park entry permit is required. Fort Kearny is located south of Kearney off Link 50A.

Northwest District Birding Day Set for May 29

LINCOLN, Neb. – Birders of all ages and experience levels are invited to join the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission for Northwest District Birding Day on May 29 at Buffalo Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Double Boat Ramp Open at Victory Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. – A new double boat ramp at Victory Lake is now open at Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area (SRA). The ramp replaces one that had become unusable. The ramp is the latest of several improvements at the SRA. Summer visitors also will find a new meeting building available for rental. Re-Enactment Set for Fort Hartsuff SHP May 25-26

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Fremont Pathfinders re-enactors will portray life as soldiers at a 1870s infantry outpost on the Great Plains at Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park on May 25-26. Fish-Eating Birds Hamper Two Rivers Trout Fishing

LINCOLN, Neb. – Trout fishing success at Two Rivers State Recreation Area (SRA) Lake No. 5 has significantly slowed over the past several weeks because of predation by cormorants and pelicans. Because of poor catch rates, the trout tag requirement for fishing that lake has been lifted for the remainder of the 2013 season.
