Fall Turkey Permits Available Beginning Aug. 8

LINCOLN – Hunters may begin purchasing fall turkey permits Aug. 8 at 1 p.m. Central Time. Permits will be available at OutdoorNebraska.org and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission permitting offices. A fall turkey permit is valid statewide and allows a hunter to harvest two turkeys of either sex with a shotgun or archery equipment. Each hunter may have up to two permits. Migratory Bird Hunters Must Register for HIP

LINCOLN – Hunters of migratory birds are reminded of their requirement to register for the Harvest Information Program (HIP). Registration began Aug. 1. HIP registration is required of residents age 16 and older and all nonresidents who plan to hunt migratory game birds in Nebraska between Aug. 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017. LINCOLN – Learn about birds of prey and see live owls, falcons, and hawks up-close during a Raptor Recovery presentation Aug. 6 at Two Rivers State Recreation Area. LINCOLN – Grant Pavelka and Tyler Rowland of North Platte High School caught a five-fish limit weighing 15.85 pounds to capture the Nebraska High School Fishing Championship for the second year in a row. The event took place July 23 at Elwood Reservoir Wildlife Management Area north of Elwood in Gosper County. The winning team’s largest bass weighed 3.57 pounds. Mountain Lion Killed in Gering

LINCOLN – A mountain lion was dispatched in Gering during the late morning of July 21, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. A Nebraska Game and Parks conservation officer shot the 60-pound female after it was reported in a residential area of the city. It is Nebraska Game and Parks’ protocol to kill mountain lions found in municipalities.
