Several Hunting Seasons Opening in Early September

LINCOLN – September in Nebraska means football – and hunting. The first day of the month brings the opener of several hunting seasons, including dove, grouse and archery deer. Dove hunters should be reminded that they are required to have a Harvest Information Program number. They can obtain one at outdoornebraska.ne.gov/hip or by calling 1-877-634-8687. Living History Scheduled Sept. 5-6 at Fort Atkinson SHP

LINCOLN – Life at an 1820s military post will be depicted at Living History Weekend at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park (SHP) on Sept. 5-6. Rooms in the fort will be open for viewing from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and interpreters in period clothing will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate various skills and crafts of that time period. Hunters May Enter Lottery for Deer Hunting Access on the Central Platte

LINCOLN – Hunters may enter a lottery to gain deer hunting access to Platte River Recreation Access (PRRA) lands in the central Platte River Valley, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Forty-six hunters will be chosen from a random drawing in early October and allowed to hunt deer on designated PRRA lands Nov. 16-22. Education Center Closed to Public for Workshop

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center in Lincoln will be closed to the public Saturday, Sept. 12 for the Women on Target Instructional Clinic. This clinic is open to women age 19 and older who want to learn how to shoot small-bore firearms and archery in a fun and safe environment. Recovery Efforts Continue with Stocking of Pallid Sturgeon in Missouri River

LINCOLN – More than 2,000 5- to 6-inch pallid sturgeon were stocked in the channelized portion of the Missouri River along Nebraska’s eastern border on Aug. 24. The stocking is part of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s recovery efforts for this federal- and state-listed endangered species. The pallid sturgeon were stocked in two locations. Repaving Project at Indian Cave State Park Continues

LINCOLN – The repaving of roads within Indian Cave State Park in southeast Nebraska continues. The road to Hackberry Hollow Campground has been finished. Currently, work is being done to the road to the Ash Grove Campground, the Cave road, and the boat ramp road. Game and Parks Seeks Information on Illegally Harvested Deer

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information involving a case of deer being illegally harvested in the Omaha area. In the early morning of Aug. 9 a trail camera in the Ponca Hills area took photos of two individuals – at least one with a firearm – dragging a deer.
