LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles at several sites across the state, as weather allows.
Brush piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands, or from trees damaged in recent wildfires. Removal of brush piles will open grasslands and timber for continued management, eliminate a wildfire fuel source and eliminate sites conducive to the germination of noxious and invasive plants.
The following list includes scheduled prescribed burns by county:
Sherman County – Sherman Reservoir Wildlife Management Area (WMA); Custer County – Pressey WMA, Arcadia Diversion Dam WMA; Howard County – Leonard A. Koziol WMA, Harold Anderson WMA; Dawes County – Chadron State Park, Chadron Creek Ranch WMA, Ponderosa WMA; Scotts Bluff County – Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area; Lancaster County – Branched Oak WMA, Bluestem WMA, Yankee Hill WMA, Olive Creek WMA; Thayer County – Meridian WMA, Dry Sandy WMA; Phelps County – Sacramento WMA; Jefferson County – Flathead WMA, Alexandria Southwest WMA.
