Target shooting will be prohibited permanently, effective immediately, at Memphis Wildlife Management Area as a new shop complex is being planned for construction.
Pending approval, an office building and two storage sheds will be built at Memphis WMA to support the management needs of 10 other wildlife management areas in Douglas, Sarpy, Saunders, Cass and Otoe counties. Combined, they include more than 4,000 acres of land.
The new complex will replace the one currently at Randall W. Schilling WMA near Plattsmouth, which is prone to more frequent flooding due to its location near the confluence of the Platte and Missouri rivers.
In addition to equipment, the new complex will include offices for staff who respond to wildlife depredation, nuisance and other wildlife management duties.
