Many of us who enjoy Nebraska’s great outdoors do so as a result of flora and fauna that we see there. But, I am reminded today, that wildlife is, after all, all around us, even in urban Omaha’s Metcalfe Park neighborhood! I think it’s really neat when we have to go no further than our own homes to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate wildlife, especially in late spring and early summer! Case in point: The mourning dove nest at our Wagner abode. Look!
On the ledge of our fireplace chimney we have a mourning dove nest. Here’s a parent sitting on the two eggs.
How cool! Isn’t the mourning dove a strikingly beautiful bird?
Think about it, you don’t have to travel at all to experience nature as a rich biodiversity existing right out your door or around the corner of your porch!
So, the next time you are washing your windows, cleaning out your gutters, watering your flowers, or merely sitting on your front porch having a morning cup of joe, take some time and closely look around. Use your senses and see how many wildlife species are at your place! At the Wagner residence, we are optimistic about seeing the squabs (young, juvenile mourning doves).
