I’m helpin’ to get the word out to you – fellow farmers/ag producers – that a USDA General Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) Sign-Up Period is coming in May. It is set to get underway on May 20th, WOO-HOO!!! This was announced by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack this past Saturday, February 16th at the National Pheasant & Quail Classic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Here’s the press release from Pheasants Forever on the details of the announcement: http://www.pheasantsforever.org/default.aspx
Keep in mind that I’ve always tried to practice what I preach when it comes to sound wildlife habitat practices and being a good steward of the land. The proof is in the pudding, or, I should say “in the grass,” on our 157 year-old family farm in southeast Nebraska.
I have as much of the farm as possible enrolled in conservation programs and are going to be performing various conservation practices on the rest this year. Much of our farm is currently enrolled in the USDA’s Conservation Reserve Program and I unequivocally believe in it! As a farmer, won’t you at least check out what will be included in this forthcoming May CRP Sign-Up? I think you’ll be glad you did. Here are some pics of our CRP acres when things were green. Look at that plant diversityand that bird in it!
