New spray park now open at Platte River State Park

LINCOLN, Neb. – A new, two-tiered spray park is now open at Platte River State Park (SP) near Louisville. The spray park, one of the only two-tiered spray parks in the region, includes various spray features, three waterslides, a waterfall, dump buckets and a fountain, among other water features. LINCOLN, Neb. – The Big Game Conservation Association will host a Day at the Range on Aug. 19 at Platte River State Park. Come to the Roger G. Larger channel catfish stocked for youth to catch

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is giving young anglers in southeastern Nebraska an opportunity to catch some larger channel catfish. Game and Parks later this week is stocking approximately 25 cats at Platte River State Park’s Jenny Newman Pond near Louisville and 200 fish at Bowling Lake in Lincoln. Platte River SP trail bridge to close temporarily

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Owen Crossing Bridge at Platte River State Park will be temporarily closed for maintenance Feb. 13 – March 31. The hike-bike trail bridge in the northeast portion of the park spans Decker Creek. The closure will temporarily cut off access to the trails in the Sjogren wildlife track. The park has several other trails that will not be affected. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering the park.

LINCOLN – Due to inclement weather, all holiday activities Dec. 17 at Platte River State Park scheduled for 3 p.m. and later have been cancelled. This includes the yule log quest and hayrack rides. Events scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. will continue as planned, including kids’ crafts, visits with Santa and marshmallow roasting. The Scott Lodge Restaurant will remain open. A park entry permit is required.

There is a little pond at Platte River State Park.  It is open for catch & release fishing for kids and adults fishing with their kids.  As my kids were growing up, we took advantage of that fishing opportunity as much as possible; there were, and still are, some big Bluegills and Channel Catfish and lots of Largemouth Bass swimming in the Jenny Newman pond (Growing Up Jenny Newman).
