Free Fishing/Park Entry Day on TV

I’ll be telling you why you should go fishing with your family and visit a Nebraska state park land this Saturday on my Weekly TV Outdoor Report airing on Omaha’s WOWT 6 News. That’s because this Saturday, May 16th marks Nebraska’s Free Fishing and State Park Entry Day, woo-hoo! It’s kind of an open house of sorts in our great outdoors! Special, how-to, fun family oriented fishing events events will also be held around the state. Be sure to bring all the kids! …

Happy Mother’s Day 2015

Sunday is Mother’s Day.  What mother does not like baby ducks? Oh, my grandmothers liked baby ducks as much as the next mother, but my grandmother’s also were pike fisherwomen.  They liked catching big, bad, baby duck-eating pike! Grandma Roth even got a Master Angler Award for that fish.  I have the award here on the book shelf in my office. Mom got in on the pike-catching too.  I am guessing this pike ate little baby ducks. I have posted …

Adventure Report, Spring Toothies

Been a busy spring for me, and I have not blogged about any fishing that I have been doing for awhile.  Oh, I have been fishing, you can count on that, I just have had plenty of other stuff to blog about.  So, let me show some pictures and give a little update. My son and I met up with my trout-bum nephew for a trip this spring.  As a matter of fact, Seth, had just returned from guiding fly-fishermen …

Come on, Disconnect for a Day!

What would it be like to go without ultra-modern technology? What if you had to give up your mobile communicating device (cell phone), iPad, iPod, laptop computer, digital cable television, satellite car radio, etc. for 24 hours. That would mean no texting, no Tweeting, no Facebook, no Snapchat, no Facetime, no IM-ing, none of that stuff! Could you do it?  Is it even remotely possible? I know, I know. Call me what you want. I’m an old fart, an “old schooler,” a soon-to-be grandpa. But, come on, face …

Earth Day? 2015

I have a couple of calendars in my office that have something about “Earth Day” scribbled on the square dated April 22, 2015.  I have taken a cynical view of “Earth Day” in the past, have reflected that in my blog, and do not feel any differently today.  Let me tell you why. . . . Earlier this week I stopped at a stop-light and watched the pig in the car in front of me squash out his cigarette and …

Watts Lake Renovation

Our Nebraska Game & Parks fisheries personnel had an opportunity to get another quick renovation done this spring.  There have been some news releases on this, but I am guessing many folks may have not heard about it.  Here is an extended version of the news release, a version with a little more detail on why these projects are so beneficial: Watts Lake Renovated to Improve Fishery Recently the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Nebraska Game and Parks Commission(NGPC) renovated …
