Very Grateful

The season for gratitude and reflection is upon us. Thanksgiving week is when we remind our families, friends and close associates how much they mean to us and express our sincere appreciation for what positive things we have been given in life. While you are considering what you are thankful for, don’t forget about Nebraska’s outdoor scene. During the nine days of the recent firearm deer hunting season here in Cornhusker State, I selected thirteen key elements to be very  …

Happy Thanksgiving, 2022

Getting ready to head out for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Want to leave you with this blog post before I take a break for a few days. We have a lot for which to be thankful.  If you spend some time, quiet, on the water or in the field, alone, I do not see how you cannot be impressed with that fact.  It comes to me often and not just when I catch a big fish or take game.  I am …

Game and Parks reminds hunters: No pheasants available to be released for youth season, Thanksgiving weekend

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters it will not be releasing pen-reared pheasants before the youth pheasant season and Thanksgiving holiday this year. Unlike past years, vendors were unable to provide the pheasants this year. The statewide youth season is Oct. 22-23, but only youth ages 15 and younger will be allowed to hunt. The youth season provides a great opportunity to expose youth hunters to upland bird hunting and spend quality time afield. To find new places …

No pheasants available to be released for youth season, Thanksgiving this year

Because vendors were unable to provide birds, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will not be releasing pen-reared pheasants before the youth pheasant season and Thanksgiving holiday this year. The statewide youth season still will take place Oct. 22-23, but only youth ages 15 and younger will be allowed to hunt. “It’s very unfortunate the Commission was unable to purchase birds to release for the special season this year,” said Alicia Hardin, the agency’s Wildlife Division administrator. “Two separate requests …

Happy Thanksgiving 2021

PA160011

Heading out the door for grandma’s house.  I will post a short blog here, and will get back to blogging when I get the chance after the holiday. We will celebrate Thanksgiving very much the same as most of you–family, feasting, football.  In addition, we will work in some time in the field and on the water when we can. Once again, we have a lot for which to be thankful.  I know that sometimes gets lost in all the …

Going to be “outta the office” for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Nope, not going to be the usual holiday.  Nothing else has been “normal” this year, why would it be any different for Thanksgiving? However, one thing has NOT changed, and that is we have A LOT for which to be thankful!  Freedom, this beautiful state we call home, time spent outdoors, friends and family, health, food on the table, a roof over our heads.  Maybe we should all appreciate those …

Happy Thanksgiving, 2019

PB050021

I always do a short blog post before heading out the door for the Thanksgiving holiday.  Problem is I feel like I say the same thing year after year. Like many of you, I will be traveling, weather permitting, and spending time with family.  One of the themes I repeat every Thanksgiving is that between feasting and time with family, a few of us will slip away to chase some roosters or perhaps dry off a fish or three.  Again, …

Thankful

PA080003

Thanksgiving is next week.  I am thinking I may have a more serious blog post then about every thing for which we should be thankful.  Until then, this old commercial came to mind: Yes, I can recite that prayer word-for-word. And, am sincerely thankful for the Rapalas! Have a great weekend!
