NORTH PLATTE, Neb. – Sixty mule deer does are carrying GPS monitoring devices for a new research study designed to aid in the management of mule deer populations in high and low density areas of Nebraska. LINCOLN, Neb. – Big game hunters had a record year in Nebraska in 2016 with all-time high harvest marks set for mule deer bucks, cow elk and total elk. Deer – A total of 58,126 deer were harvested in 2016, including 11,184 mule deer. Mule deer buck harvest increased 4 percent to 9,257, breaking the previous record set in 2009. LINCOLN – Nebraska mule deer buck harvest is on a pace to set a record this year. Mule deer buck harvest, as of Dec. 1, has increased for the third consecutive year to 8,486 (up 2 percent from 2015) and is on track to beat the 2008 record of 9,115 adult bucks. New Pine Ridge Mule Deer Survey Improves Population Data

LINCOLN – Nebraska Game and Parks Commission employees used a bird’s-eye view of the rugged high country of the Pine Ridge last month to obtain more accurate deer population data for northwestern Nebraska. During five days in early February, Game and Parks staff members boarded a contracted helicopter and surveyed eight areas of the Pine Ridge Management Unit, which encompasses 429 square miles. Game and Parks Seeks Information on Mule Deer Case

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is seeking information in an investigation of deer shot and left in Red Willow County. Between March 20 and March 22, three mule deer were shot and left near an abandoned farm northwest of Indianola. One of the deer was left alive but injured when a conservation officer investigated the site March 23.
