Reserve sites at Danish Alps, Summit Lake beginning May 10

LINCOLN, Neb. – Reservable campsites will be available beginning May 10 at northeastern Nebraska’s Danish Alps and Summit Lake state recreation areas. Starting at 9 a.m. Central time, half of the electric-plus Pigeon Creek Equestrian Campground and Jones Creek Campground sites will become available for reservation at Danish Alps. Register for Great No Wake Weekend kayak relay race

LINCOLN, Neb. — Registration opens May 7 for the Great No Wake Weekend kayak relay race set for June 12 at Danish Alps State Recreation Area in Hubbard. Relay teams require four members, who must bring their own kayaks and life jackets for the race. The minimum age for the race is 16, with one teammate required to be older than 18. Some state park service centers to reopen July 1

LINCOLN, Neb. – Select state park area service centers will reopen to the public July 1 for customer service, information and permit sales. Amenities such as interpretive displays and gift shops will not be available. Restrooms may be open. All park service center visitors must wear a face mask. Danish Alps SRA reports large area of thin ice

LINCOLN, Neb. – Due to recent fluctuations in temperatures, Danish Alps State Recreation Area in Dakota County has a large area of very thin ice that nearly divides the lake in half. Until about a week ago, there was a large area of open water associated with a pressure ridge. Recent cold temperatures have refrozen this area, resulting in ice less than an inch thick. LINCOLN – Enjoy a day of family fun Aug. 1 at the grand opening of Nebraska’s newest state recreation area – Danish Alps SRA in northeast Nebraska.
