Six state recreation areas will allow fireworks on July 4

LINCOLN, Neb. – Visitors to six state recreation areas will be allowed to touch off fireworks on July 4. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is urging them to be especially careful this year. Visitors should always use caution when lighting fireworks but should be mindful of the dry conditions that exist across the state this year and the risk of wildfire. Branched Oak to host modified Spooktacular event

LINCOLN, Neb. — Branched Oak State Recreation Area will host its annual Spooktacular event with a few modifications this year due to the novel coronavirus and local health recommendations. Middle Oak Creek Campground (Area 4) will host its annual campground-decorating contest on Oct. 17, but all other park activities have been cancelled. Branched Oak habitat tour to focus on brush removal, mulching

LINCOLN, Neb. – Participate in a free workshop on brush removal and mulching July 26 near Branched Oak State Recreation Area. Pheasants Forever, Quail Forever and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will host this habitat tour from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the Branched Oak Maintenance Shop, 13401 W. Branched Oak Road. Branched Oak to Host Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. – The AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championship will be held at Branched Oak State Recreation Area from March 16-25. Nearly 200 dogs from around the country representing nine breeds are expected to compete. The event is a joint venture of the American Kennel Club and the Nebraska Field Trial Association, a group of eight dog clubs that promote dog trials in the state and maintains the trial grounds at Branched Oak.
