Aquatic Habitat Project to Begin at Conestoga Reservoir

LINCOLN – The rehabilitation of the reservoir at Conestoga State Recreation Area is underway. The outlet structure will be modified in preparation for a project to improve aquatic habitat, water quality and angler access. Visitors can expect to encounter areas closed to public access near construction equipment and work areas. The reservoir has experienced the degrading effects of years of sedimentation and nutrient accumulation. Aquatic Habitat Project in Progress at Valentine NWR

LINCOLN – An aquatic habitat project began this month at Valentine National Wildlife Refuge to address the lakes’ presence of common carp and their passage through water control structures. Engineers designed improvements to the control structures below Watts, Hackberry, Dewey, Whitewater, Clear, Willow and Pelican lakes. Rat and Beaver Lakes to Close Temporarily for Aquatic Habitat Project

LINCOLN – Rat and Beaver Lakes in Cherry County will be temporarily closed to the public next month while a chemical renovation of the lakes takes place as part of an aquatic habitat project. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission set a tentative date of Sept. 3-4, depending on the weather, for the chemical renovation of the fishery at Rat and Beaver Lakes. Burchard WMA Aquatic Habitat Rehab Complete

LINCOLN – The aquatic habitat rehabilitation project is complete at Burchard Wildlife Management Area, however the reservoir remains low. The new boat ramp facility is still not accessible and will remain closed because of the water level is 7-8 feet below full pool. Access to the reservoir is allowed for bank angling, but all vehicles must remain on roads and parking lots. Rat and Beaver Lakes Aquatic Habitat Project to Begin

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has recently installed a temporary control structure below Rat and Beaver lakes located in Cherry County. This structure will allow the lakes to be lowered 18 inches over several months in preparation for a complete lake rehabilitation project.
