Proposed Harlan County Reservoir project could enhance sport fishing opportunities

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is assisting the United States Army Corps of Engineer’s Kansas City District Office to determine the feasibility of a project to enhance sport fish populations at Harlan County Reservoir. Although the water level is at a record high at Harlan right now, during summers with typical moisture, important fish habitats in some coves and bays become isolated from the main lake. Join Game and Parks to learn about catfish fishing Aug. 1 in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – Learn all aspects of fishing for catfish at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s Discover Catfish Fishing event Aug. 1 at Lincoln’s Holmes Lake. This event will be held in conjunction with Community Fishing Night. Fly fishing clinic set for July 31 at Mormon Island State Recreation Area

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will offer free instruction for individuals interested in learning the basics of fly fishing on July 31 from 6-8 p.m. at Mormon Island State Recreation Area in Grand Island. Game and Parks staff and volunteers will lead demonstrations and discussions on techniques, equipment and fly fishing opportunities. Loaner tackle will be available. July 18 community fishing events in Norfolk and Lincoln cancelled because of heat

LINCOLN, Neb. – Two community fishing events scheduled for Thursday, July 18, have been cancelled due to a forecast of extreme heat. The events were scheduled to take place at Bowling Lake in Lincoln, and at Skyview Lake in Norfolk. Neither will be rescheduled. Hunters have until July 19 to pay for big game permits awarded via drawing

LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters who were awarded big game permits during the 2019 limited permit drawing have until July 19 to purchase their permits. Those who successfully drew permits must visit a Nebraska Game and Parks office or log into https://ngpc-home.ne.gov and pay for their permits by 11:59 p.m. on July 19. LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters may purchase 2019 big game permits at any Nebraska Game and Parks Commission office or online beginning at 1 p.m. Central Time on Aug. 5. Residents, nonresidents and eligible landowners may purchase remaining deer and antelope permits. Residents and eligible landowners may purchase remaining elk permits. Cooper, Oettinger win state high school fishing tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. – Jaron Cooper and Keegan Oettinger of the Platte Valley Bassmasters team caught a five-fish limit weighing 15.88 pounds to capture the The Bass Federation – Nebraska High School Fishing Championship on July 12 at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area. Cooper caught the tournament’s biggest fish at 4.55 pounds.
