Duck hunters must choose from two bag limits when they register for HIP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Duck hunters must choose between two daily bag limits when they register for their Harvest Information Program number this year. Nebraska and South Dakota are entering a new “two-tier” program starting with the 2021-2022 regular duck season. Tier I is the current traditional six-duck bag limit with species and sex restrictions. Tier II is a three-duck bag limit with no species or sex restrictions. HIP registration begins Aug. 1. Body of 16-year-old boy recovered from Lake Yankton

LINCOLN, Neb. – The body of a 16-year-old Madison, Nebraska, boy was recovered from Lake Yankton at about 8:30 p.m. on July 4 by first responders from Nebraska and South Dakota. At 3:22 p.m., the Cedar County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a juvenile male drowning at the lake. Five Nebraska conservation officers responded, along with a Cedar County Sheriff’s deputy, U. S. Corps of Engineers park rangers and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks conservation officers. It …

Dead Timber SRA campground access road reopens

LINCOLN, Neb. – Construction has been completed and the access road to the Dead Timber State Recreation Area campground has reopened. The campground access road at the Dodge County park area was temporarily closed earlier in June so that it could be widened. Other road improvements and flood repairs also were made. A park entry permit is required of each vehicle entering the park. Permits may be purchased at OutdoorNebraska.org.

Game and Parks accepting Gifford Point access permit applications July 1-31

LINCOLN, Neb. – People interested in hunting deer at Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area this fall may apply for access permits July 1-31. Two hundred of these permits will be issued to allow hunters access to the area. The use of rimfire and centerfire weapons is prohibited at Gifford. LINCOLN, Neb. — Two grant programs are accepting applications from communities across Nebraska for recreation improvements. Applications for the Recreation Trails Program are due Sept. 3, 2021. Applications for the grants through the Land and Water Conservation Fund are due Sept. 17, 2021.
