Gobbler #3 – The Chocolate Tom

My 2013 Nebraska spring wild turkey hunting season is complete. Took Gobbler #3 Saturday evening hunting in the woodlands of northern Douglas County with Son Zach Wagner. Thanks for shooting the pics, Zach! What a beautiful bird! Since it didn’t have much white on it, Zach and I declared this turkey a term we acquired from the Daryl Bauer Family  — “The Chocolate Tom.” Here’s a different perspective and a closer look at the bird. Who is the Grandmaster of  Turkey Hunting? It’s this man! None other than legendary turkey hunter, veteran turkey call maker (www.turpincalls.com) and humorist Dick Turpin of Lincoln, NE! Dick joins me along with his sidekick Dudley Moore on the show …

TURKEYS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

I received a phone call yesterday from a woman who lives in a neighborhood just north of Zorinsky Lake in west Omaha concerning problematic wild turkeys. We have a lot of wild turkeys in and around Omaha, and, as some of you know, they are not wary of us humans. In fact, as neat as they are to see, turkeys may become a nuisance by roosting on roofs, in trees near homes, and on decks, and they are known to …
