Ponca SP Hosting Day of Crafts, Archery

LINCOLN – Visit Ponca State Park on Nov. 8 for a day of crafts and archery. At 10 a.m., learn about the owls that live in the park while you make an ornamental pinecone owl. At 1 p.m., learn about the history of wreaths while you create your own using natural materials. At 2 p.m., learn about the history of archery hunting and then shoot some arrows yourself. LINCOLN – The Missouri River Outdoor Expo, a huge annual event showcasing outdoor activities of all types, will mark its 10th anniversary Sept. 20-21 at Ponca State Park. Several new events and attractions are on tap this year. Among them are the Grunt, Gobble and Growl Contest, in which contestants vie for prizes by giving their best impression of any animal they choose. Bowfishing Mentor Program at Ponca State Park

LINCOLN – Ponca State Park’s first Bowfishing Mentor Program will run July 9 through Aug. 6 on Wednesday nights, 6 p.m. until dark. The free program is open to ages 10 and above. Enrollees are encouraged to attend all sessions, which will cover basic archery, fish identification, water safety and more. Sessions will be conducted by local bow hunter education instructors. Ponca SP to Host Outdoor Cooking Camp April 11-13

LINCOLN – Ponca State Park will host its third Outdoor Cooking Camp on April 11-13. The interactive camp includes a variety of specialty courses with hands-on instruction. Topics and activities will include campfire cooking, Dutch oven cooking, cedar plank salmon and trout, wild game sausage making, catfish cleaning and cooking, fireplace cooking, smoking meat and backyard barbecue, venison cooking, cream-can cooking, and youth classes.
