What Is The Deer Hunting Experience Like?

The morning air is crisp and cold. The stalks of corn stubble and hardwood trees along the river bottom stand as stalwarts; motionless and silent. The scene offers a picturesque postcard setting against the slowly lightening predawn sky. The sounds of wildlife awakening for the day can now be heard along the river bottom. A raucous calamity of crows is off in the distance. Two fox squirrels squabble amid the leaves on the woodland floor along the edge of the cornfield. The insistent nasal yammering of a white-breasted …

Get Out And Scout For Firearm Deer Hunting Season

Nebraska’s most popular hunting season – the firearm deer season – is right around the bend. Opening day for it is November 10th. Are you participating in it? Awesome! Many of us are. I am, as well! Hey, let me ask you some questions. Have you purchased your firearm deer hunting permit and habitat stamp? Have you brushed up on your deer hunting regulations and nearest check station locations? Have you firmed up permission with your farmer or rancher friends to hunt their private land? Have you sighted in your centerfire deer hunting …

Pay Attention To Nature’s Sounds When Deer Hunting

Picture yourself harnessed in a tree stand for deer hunting. You are losing light. It’s nearing sunset. The prime time for deer movement. Suddenly, you hear a squirrel bark and chatter. Then even closer to you, from the same direction, you hear curiosity putts from some wild turkeys. Within a few minutes you hear another squirrel bark and chatter by your location. Then, you hear the guttural grunt of a buck. Out of nowhere appears an adult white-tailed deer doe with pair of fawns being followed by an …

Perhaps they have already harvested deer, or are tired of trying to do so with their bow, crossbow or muzzleloader, or are just not interested in taking a white-tailed doe during the deep-freeze weather of the late season. Whatever the case may be, that deer hunting gear should not be put away! Hunters should not let the word ‘late’ make them feel …

Firearm Deer Season: Enjoying the Experience, Making Memories

We are now just under one week away from the opening day of Nebraska’s largest hunt – the firearm deer hunting season. It opens this Saturday, November 15th. I can hardly wait!
