Game and Parks accepting Gifford Point access permit applications through July 31

LINCOLN, Neb. – People interested in hunting deer at Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA) this season may apply for access permits through July 31, according to Neal Van Winkle of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Van Winkle, the Gifford Point WMA manager, said 200 authorization permits will be issued to allow deer hunters access to the area. LINCOLN – The opening two days of the Nebraska’s firearm deer season started off strong, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The season opened Nov. 12. “Although final harvest numbers are still being calculated, hunters got off to a great start this weekend,” said Kit Hams, the Commission’s big game program manager. LINCOLN – Hunters may enter a lottery to gain deer hunting access to Platte River Recreation Access (PRRA) lands in the central Platte River Valley, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. LINCOLN – Hunters may begin donating deer to the Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) program Sept. 1 at 18 processor locations around the state. Three additional processors will accept deer for the program starting Nov. 12. Hunters pay no processing costs for deer accepted by processors for this donation-driven program. I am currently in the field enjoying spending quality time with family and friends during Nebraska’s 2015 firearm deer hunting season (despite some of our ever-changing Nebraska weather conditions, HA!).
