Hunters will have a chance to pursue deer at three state park areas along the lower Platte River this fall and winter. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is offering special antlerless deer hunting opportunities within Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks and Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Louisville floating playground closed for season

The floating playground at Louisville State Recreation Area will not reopen for the season after the inflatables sustained damage during an incident in mid-August. Eight of the playground’s 70 floating pieces were damaged Aug. 11 and became partially submerged. During inspections and repair of that damage, additional damage requiring repairs was discovered. Compete in steel plate challenge at Platte River State Park

Celebrate National Shooting Sports Month at the range by participating in a steel plate shooting challenge Aug. 27 at Platte River State Park near Louisville. The competition will be 9 to 11 a.m. at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex. Cost is  $15 to compete, and participants must be 16 years old or older. Mahoney SP’s conservatory to close temporarily for construction of new Venture Parks project

Eugene T. Mahoney State Park’s James Family Conservatory will be closed temporarily starting July 20 for the start of a yearlong construction project. The closure will accommodate the addition of the new Nature Center and Outdoor Education Classroom, a Venture Parks project. The tentative completion of the new project will be summer 2023.
