Something to Listen To. . .

VVAM0003

I know what you have all been doing the past few weeks.  While you are “working at home” you are watching a lot more TV, listening to a lot more radio.  By now you have seen all the same stupid movies a couple, three times.  Sports TV is worthless, but still better than sports talk radio is right now.  Sure, you can listen to music, but that gets old too. The best solution would be the sounds of nature; there …

Fight!

FightingTurkeys

When I am in the office, which has not been much lately, at the bottom of the stairs is a mount of two Tom turkeys fighting.  I love that mount, love that I walk by it at least a couple times every day.  It reminds me of a story. . . . My sister married a guy from Pennsylvania.  Rick loves to hunt, still does, but at the time had been unsuccessful hunting turkeys in the spring.  Of course our …

Fly Fishing Guide

IMG_1167

Haven’t posted anything from Hank Patterson for a while.  This is a good one, and I believe, a little teaser of more to come. Of course you know, what makes things like that humorous is that there is at least some truth to it!  If you know a fishing guide or two, especially a fly-fishing guide, I will bet at least some parts of that video reminded you of them!  Yes, Seth, I am thinking of you!  Man, do I …

Comfort

P4200044

In these unusual times I think we are all just hoping for a little bit of normalcy.  We all hate change and the unknown.  It would be nice to know things are going to be “normal” again.  Would be nice to know things are normal now. I found some of that the other evening.  Found it sitting on a hilltop watching the sun set. What I found was quiet, peacefulness. Deer still ghosted from their bedding areas as the sun …

Cold Water Boat Safety

08final-logo-1000

Last week the weather was nice, temperatures were warm and none of you would have listened to me. . . . This week the reality of springtime in Nebraska has slapped us in the face, again.  Maybe I can get a few of you to consider some things. . . . I know we are all anxious to get on the water this time of year, and I know we love a warm spring afternoon.  But, even on those afternoons …

Stupid Friday

20190825_160548

Considering the circumstances, I have been trying to keep my Friday blog posts lighthearted the past few weeks.  I will continue that trend today with some stupid memes I have saved.  This seems to be as good a time as any to use them. You know there is very little demand for fish jokes.  I will slip ’em in whenever I can, but that is darned seldom.  Like this one: Actually, chain pickerel were stocked in some Nebraska waters years …

It is Spring and Crappies Are on the Mind

P7060048

If you blog about the outdoors, fish and fishing, subject matter is seasonal.  Same time every year the same subjects are relevant and I will probably blog about them in some form.  I hope people do not mind “re-runs”, but I am betting most will not remember, and there are a bunch of new readers.  I re-ran one last week, got another here. . . . As soon as we have some nice weather this time of year, everyone wants …

Youth Fishing Instructor Newsletter, Spring 2020

youthfishinginstructors1

I want to get this distributed a little further today: Once again a huge THANK YOU to all of our volunteer fishing instructors.  We could not do a lot of what we do without you! If you are not one, and would like to be:  Become a Fishing Instructor. As the newsletter says, I do not know when we will be back to doing the things we love, including kid’s fishing events and community fishing nights.  Hope it is soon, …

Social Distancing Champion

EarlySpringJakest

With the current status of our world, I have been spending way too much time watching TV and surfing the interwebs.  Idiocy reigns. Oh sure, I have slipped out for some social distancing, sunshine, mental and physical health therapy.  Then, it is back home.  However, I have seen one commercial recently that I kinda like: https://youtu.be/AeavqyDYQtQ Who knew?  His name is Daryl.  Good name. For now, spending some time outdoors is still allowed.  As I said earlier, it is good …

Kid’s System

blg2sp96

I am going to re-post a blog that I did several years back.  This blog has been a good one to reference over the years, but with web page changes and so forth I can no longer do that.  So, I am just going to post it again.  Perhaps you and the kids have some time to practice some social distancing right now. . . . If you fish, you need to find someone new, find a kid, take ’em …
