Missouri River Outdoor Expo Celebrates 10th Year

LINCOLN – The Missouri River Outdoor Expo, a huge annual event showcasing outdoor activities of all types, will mark its 10th anniversary Sept. 20-21 at Ponca State Park.

Several new events and attractions are on tap this year. Among them are the Grunt, Gobble and Growl Contest, in which contestants vie for prizes by giving their best impression of any animal they choose. Game and Parks’ new 6,000-gallon mobile aquarium, which debuted at the Nebraska State Fair in August, will showcase native Nebraska fish. There also will be a hamburger-eating contest, a shooting exhibition and a raptor show.

In addition to the 80-plus hands-on activities, the popular DockDogs competition and Kids’ Cook-Off return to the expo.

The expo is an annual September event that attracts thousands of visitors. This event is designed to introduce or rekindle interest in natural resources and outdoor recreation to family members of all ages. A park entry permit is required but the activities are free.
