We are starting a major Aquatic Habitat Rehabilitation project at Conestoga Reservoir west of Lincoln this fall. Access to the area has been closed and the water level is starting to drop. We are hosting an open house on Wednesday night, come out and learn about the project!
Public Meeting Scheduled for Conestoga Aquatic Rehabilitation Project
September 18, 2013LINCOLN, Neb. – There will be a public informational meeting Sept. 25 in Denton regarding the upcoming aquatic rehabilitation project at Conestoga Lake.
The meeting will take place from 5-7 p.m. at the Denton Community Center, 7115 Lancaster Ave.
Representatives of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Flatwater Group Inc., Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Lower Platte South Natural Resource District will provide information and answer questions.
Conestoga has experienced the degrading effects of years of sedimentation, which has contributed to dense algae blooms in recent years. The project will reestablish some of the depth and bottom structure, as well as capture future sediment in the upper reaches of the lake.
The project also will include off-shore breakwaters, which will protect the shoreline and provide anglers better access to deep water. The project will improve the water quality and provide a better environment for the establishment of aquatic vegetation, aquatic insects and the lake’s fishery.
The lake is being drawn down. The project is scheduled to continue through 2015, when the lake will start to refill and be restocked with fish.
Conestoga Lake is located 1½ miles north of Denton in Lancaster County.
