Sobotka Sets State Record at NASP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Devin Sobotka of Lincoln Southeast High School set a state record with 290 points at the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament March 23 in Lincoln.

Kora Shedenhelm of Omaha Mater Dei Academy repeated as the top girl scorer in the meet with 284 points.

The tournament at the Lancaster Event Center drew 460 elementary, middle school and high school archers from 23 schools. The tournament was the culminating event in the state for NASP, which is a physical education curriculum that has spread across the nation.

The following teams qualified for the NASP national tournament May 10-11 in Louisville, Ky., by winning a state championship or meeting a score requirement:

High School Division – Omaha Mater Dei Academy, Lincoln North Star; Middle School Division – Lincoln Pound; Elementary Division – Lincoln Pound.

All top-five individual finishers also qualified for nationals. The top finishers in each division were:

High School Girls – 1. Kora Shedenhelm, Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 284 points; 2. Alisha Sheets, Lincoln North Star, 279; 3. Roxanne Hyland, Oakland-Craig, 276; 4. Amanda Melrod, Lincoln North Star, 271; 5. Sabrina Picard, Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 271.

High School Boys – 1. Devin Sobotka, Lincoln Southeast, 290 (state record); 2. Alec Hogan, Lincoln North Star, 281; 3. Nathan Cerise, Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 272; 4. Jerrick Renshaw, Lincoln North Star, 271; 5. Stephen Lawrence, Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 271.

Middle School Girls – 1. Jaci Tubbs, Lincoln North American Martyrs, 270; 2. Kasey Dunaski, Lincoln Dawes, 268; 3. Grace McManaman, Lincoln Pound, 266; 4. Jenna Dejonge, Lincoln Pound, 265; 5. Katie Bower, Superior, 263.

Middle School Boys – 1. Micah Jones, Bellevue, Arrows2Ammo, 272; 2. Carson Stewart, Lincoln Blessed Sacrament, 267; 3. Joseph Cichos, Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 266; 4. Zach Bennets, Lincoln Pound, 263; 5. Ben Price, Superior, 262.

Elementary Girls – 1. Mary Steil, Omaha All Saints Catholic, 256; 2. Monae Griffin, Oakland-Craig, 255; 3. Sarah Albin, Lincoln St. John the Apostle, 250; 4. Maddie Elbracht, Lincoln Pound, 246; 5. Alanah Straka, Lincoln Dawes, 236.

Elementary Boys – 1. Taylor Murphy, Lincoln Blessed Sacrament, 276; 2. Doran Auger, Lincoln, 265; 3. Hunter Kirby, Lincoln Blessed Sacrament, 256; 4. Wyatt Schuster, Superior, 251; 5. Nathan Muir, Lincoln Goodrich 251.

Team Awards

High School Division – 1. Omaha Mater Dei Academy, 3,200 (state record); 2. Lincoln North Star, 3,120; 3. Superior, 2,962.

Middle School Division – 1. Lincoln Pound, 3,077 (state record); 2. Lincoln Blessed Sacrament, 2,929; 3. Lincoln Dawes, 2,770.

Elementary Division – 1. Lincoln Pound, 2,640; 2. Lincoln Blessed Sacrament, 2,445; 3. Bellevue Arrows2Ammo, 2,317.
