Independence Day!

It is the eve of our nation’s big 250th Independence Day celebration. Before I head out the door for the holiday, how could I blog about anything else?????

We are blessed to live in the greatest country on earth!

The great experiment that began here two hundred and fifty years ago continues. As President Lincoln said at Gettysburg, “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom–and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.” It still survives, and thrives!

Have said before that I feel the most freedom, the most independence, when I am in the field or on the water, hunting, fishing or trapping. As hunters, anglers and trappers we have benefitted from the great experiment and the freedom we enjoy here. The natural resources, land, fish and wildlife that we all love have benefitted as well. The North American Model of Wildlife Conservation , an extension of the great experiment, is the best the world has ever seen.

As is true almost every year, I will celebrate “the fourth” with family and friends. As John Adams told us we will “commemorate this day of deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. . . Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations.” And might I add, somewhere along the line a little time on the water!

Hope you do as well.

Remember, it ain’t the fourth until someone gets burned.
