We definitely had some hot weather to finish the summer. Would not have expected anything else. Admittedly, I have probably spent more time IN the water staying cool the past month, than I did ON the water trying to catch fish.
That does NOT mean that I have not been fishing. . . .
Spent some time roaming the state. Found some cooler waters in the process. Still had to brave Africa-hot air temps., but managed to dry a few off in spite of that.
Love being able to wade right into one of our cold-water streams on a hot day and catch some trout.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, spent a scorching day in a boat on one of our reservoirs. We caught a variety of fish, especially in the morning before the temperature soared. Among them were several big channel cats. The biggest was appropriately caught by our host:
I managed to catch a nice channel catfish myself.
Note the difference in coloration between those two catfish. Did not dissect them to confirm, but I am betting the bluish-colored one with a big head was a male channel cat while the one I was holding was a female.
Things are starting to look much more autumn-like now. I am getting the urge to get back on the water a whole lot more! Best open-water fishing of the year is here!
