State Record Update, Bowfishing 2026

Daryl Bauer, Fisheries Outreach Program Manager

Been a while since I have posted a state record update. Have not had a lot of activity on the state record front, but I do have a couple to tell you about, both taken by bow-fishing. In chronological order:

The first was a silver carp taken by Jake Crnkovich of Ashland. Back in May, Jake arrowed a 40 pound 8 ounce silver carp from a Saunders County sandpit. That fish was 36 inches long and beat the existing archery record by a couple of pounds.

Looks like that fish had downed quite a few Mountain Dews!

The second new state record to tell you about was taken in July. The fish was taken by Shawn Church from Elwood. Shawn arrowed a 1 pound 4 ounce hybrid sunfish from a private sandpit in Dawson County. That hybrid was just short of eleven inches at 10 7/8″.

That is all for now. You never know what you might catch. Take a minute to review the state record rules, and familiarize yourself with the complete state record list.

Congratulations, Jake and Shawn!
