The organizers of this event have no idea what they’re in for with me playing golf! I haven’t played golf since high school. It’s gonna be downright dangerous on that course with me out there swingin’ away! I’ll just plan on inspecting and evaluating the course’s wildlife habitat and lookin’ around for critters until I …

Andy Smith had joined me at Eppley Airfield and Jon Donner drove in from Minneapolis.  Preliminary scouting showed the flock likely to use the same roost area so we were set for the next morning!  …

Fine Day Yesterday on the Corne de Cerf

With yet another cold, wet weather pattern upon us here in the Heartland, I thought I’d share with you what a fine day it was yesterday on the river French Fur Trappers called Corne de Cerf, French for the horn of the elk, because of its meandering nature and tributaries. It was a nice spring day indeed to be on the Elkhorn! My buddy and I weren’t the only living, breathing things on the river this last Tuesday afternoon in April …

Another Great Gobbler Experience in Nebraska!

I was fortunate enough to have another great gobbler experience this weekend here in Nebraska and was even able to bag yet another bearded bird in northern Douglas County yesterday! I had to really work to bag this adult gobbler with his thick 9-inch beard and 1-inch spurs. The toms were active but the birds were pretty well bunched up probably due to the weather. It’s frustrating when those big toms have their girlfriends (hens) right around them! It’s hard …
