It is mid-August and water levels continue to drop on many Nebraska reservoirs. Was going to blog about something else today, but just saw this news item. Harlan County Reservoir is a very popular fishing destination, and many of you will be interested in this news. From the Harlan County Lake, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FaceBook page:
Gremlin Cove Boat Ramp CLOSED
Due to low water levels and heavy sediment buildup, the Gremlin Cove Boat Ramp and access to North Shore Marina are now temporarily closed to ensure public safety.
We’re planning an attempt to remove sediment beginning the week of August 25th, 2025. Efforts will focus on the shallowest areas of the dredge channel, and we will have an access update by Thursday August 29th, 2025. Long-term, a dredge is the best solution—and thanks to strong public support, we’re actively working toward getting one.
This is our biggest closure so far, and we’ll keep you updated on:
• Ramp reopening
• Dredging efforts
• Low-water alternatives
• Irrigation releases
Check back here for updates and visit our website for more information about our authorizations: https://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/…/Harlan…/Lake-Overview/
Thanks for your patience and support!
In addition, this information was also posted on their FaceBook page:
Cedar Point Low Water Boat Ramp: This ramp becomes usable around elevation 1,935.5. We’ll work to open it as soon as conditions allow.
Hunter Cove Low Water Boat Ramp: This ramp becomes usable around 1,932.0. However, it will require some road repairs and time for the parking lot base to dry out before reopening.
Current water level is 1935.7′ msl.
