Have one new state record to tell you about. This one was caught on rod & reel by Brenden Jones of Omaha. Brenden was fishing the Missouri River in Otoe County on Sept. 19 when he caught a big longnose gar. That fish will be a new state record at 24 pounds 14 ounces. The fish was 57 inches long and beat the old rod & reel state record by over a pound. Brenden caught his gar on cutbait, cut silver carp.
You can see a photo of the fish at the beginning of this blog post. Even better, this state record was documented better than any other state record I remember. You can watch video of the whole thing!
Congratulations, Brenden! Your state record certificate will be coming in the mail. Thanks for releasing the fish!
As I always mention, take some time to review our list of state record fish. While you are at it, make sure to review the Fishing Guide for state record rules.
You never know what you might catch!
